Stay and SOAR at Children’s Harbor

Our recent Stay and SOAR for the college aged students at the homes we serve exceeded all expectations. We are so grateful to Children's Harbor for hosting us, and to Liz Huntley and Alexis Girvan for providing such rich content and thought provoking discussions.

Liz calls herself a "child advocate by triumph", because she, herself, is a survivor of abuse. (Read her incredible memoir, "More Than a Bird".) How amazing for the young people we serve to spend time with her and her family, to hear her story, and to come away knowing that God can use their hardship for GOOD too. We are so grateful to her for her friendship and support.

Alexis, refers to herself as a "Soul Coach". And our souls were truly uplifted. She shared about the different personality types according to "5 Voices", and also provided instruction on Sabbath and the importance of weekly moments of rest and reflection. We put it into practice by dispersing to beautiful spots overlooking Lake Martin to reflect on the past week and how we have seen God working in our lives.

We also enjoyed water activities, went on an adventurous boat ride, ate lots of yummy food and snacks, made S'mores around the campfire, and watched a little football. We laughed, (some of us cried), we rested, we played, and we just all around loved spending time together.

What a blessing to spend time with the college aged students from Still Creek Ranch in Bryan, Texas, Palmer Home for Children in North Mississippi, and Big Oak Ranch outside Birmingham. We are so proud of who they are and love watching them SOAR.
